December marks the 150th anniversary of Framingham State College's move to
Framingham. After only fourteen years of existence, the
first State Normal School in the United States had already outgrown two sites in Lexington and
West Newton, and Bare Hill in the Town of Framingham looked like
an acceptable spot on which to locate the College. It was the
highest point in Framingham, though at that time the view was
more rural than it is now, with green fields and church steeples
dominating the landscape. Today, Framingham State College
is located at the intersection of busy Metro West thoroughfares.
People who
visit the campus for the first time are always amazed at how the
college has preserved a feeling of quiet New England at the top of this
beautiful hill. |
