2003 Field Hockey Review

The 2003 Rams Field Hockey team returned eight veterans who gained experience last season and learned what it takes to be successful in the Little East Conference.  The Rams finished this season with an overall record of 6-8, a 4-6 record in the LEC and a 3-2 record in the MASCAC.  The Rams qualified for the LEC tournament as the #6 seed and were defeated in the first round by Southern Maine.

Offensively, the Rams were led by senior captain Liz Britton of Barnstable who was among the league leaders in scoring in both the LEC and the MASCAC with 10 goals and 1 assist for a total of 21 points. Liz was named first team All-MASCAC and LEC Second Team.  Sophomore Jennifer Johnson of Uxbridge was second on the team in scoring with four goals and five assists.

The Rams defense was led by sophomore Sarah Ledbetter of Westboro, who was selected first team All-MASCAC, and junior captain Amanda Seely, who had 9 defensive saves on the year and was 2nd Team All-MASCAC.  Junior Desiree Rainville of Gardiner was also named MASCAC 2nd Team.  The defense was anchored by freshman goalkeeper Lindsay McKearney who had a 6–8 record, a goals against average of 2.15, 136 saves and 2 shutouts and was named MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year.

This season the Rams say goodbye to two seniors and with the majority of the team returning next season, the Rams look to continue to improve and climb the ranks in the LEC.
