Mission
|
| The
mission of the Geographical Association is
to increase an awareness of the importance
of geography in order to prepare students
for the future in a world increasingly
interconnected and interdependent. |
|
Specific Objectives
Specific objectives
include: building geographic literacy;
helping to prepare our members to
participate in the economic and intellectual
life of our college, community, nation, and
world; helping members recognize,
understand, and appreciate the richness of
human diversity at both a local and global
level; recognizing and celebrating the
importance of multiculturalism; enhancing
member’s self-esteem via cultural awareness;
and developing good public relations within
the college. |

Membership
Membership in the
Geographical Association is open to all
students at Framingham State College
regardless of major or concentration. It is
especially recommended to those students
pursuing a Geography or Earth Science major.
Weekly meetings occur in the Geography
Seminar Room. All are welcome! |

Activities
The Geographical
Association is full of activities that are
designed to form a connection with our
mission and objectives. During the academic
year members of the association coordinate
and participate in: sponsoring several guest
speakers on areas of geographic interest;
attendance at the Annual Meeting of the
Association of American Geographers;
organizing and attending the annual
Geography Department Banquet; and
redesigning the bulletin boards in the
Geography Department. |

Future Plans
Future plans for the
organization include: re-activating the
college’s chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon,
and academic honor society for geography;
sponsoring a “Geography Bee” at a local
elementary school; sponsoring a student
tutoring program in the Geography
Department; and much more! |
