Our Food and Nutrition Program

Classroom Technology - Mission - Goals - Accreditation

If you're passionate about food, health and nutrition, now is the time to pursue your interest at Framingham State College. We offer a variety of undergraduate, graduate and professional development programs to give you the competitive edge in today's health and wellness market place.

Our Graduates Have a High Pass Rate on the Registered Dietitian Exam
At our traditional New England campus, you'll find that excellence goes hand-in-hand with intellectual development and enrichment. We offer a small, close-knit community of faculty and students. By keeping classes small our dedicated faculty members can provide you with individualized advising and career counseling. We attract the highest caliber faculty who offer you a diverse and enriching curriculum. In fact, our Food and Nutrition graduates have a high pass rate on the national Registration Exam for Dietitians.

American Dietetic Association (ADA)
Chemistry and biology form the foundation of our professional curriculum. You'll find that our classes apply scientific principles to health and wellness, physical fitness and sports performance, prevention and treatment of disease, food, psychological/sociological aspects of eating, and nutrition research. You will develop your skills in computer technology, counseling, communications, management, and critical thinking. We offer full and part-time study opportunities, as well as the only Coordinated Program in Dietetics in New England.

At the Forefront of Technology
Picture of Smart Classroom You'll apply coursework principles in our food laboratories, which feature state-of-the-art demonstration capabilities. Framingham State College boasts a campus-wide wireless laptop program. Many "smart classrooms", as shown right, allow faculty to integrate computers into all Food and Nutrition courses.

Mission
The Food and Nutrition program at Framingham State College will develop a course of study that enables graduates to actively participate in the changing food environment, in the nutrition education process, and in health care delivery systems according to the highest standards of client service and professional ethics.

The Coordinated Program in Dietetics concentration integrates an academic and supervised practice curriculum to prepare students to be entry-level dietitians. The Nutrition and Dietetics concentration (Didactic Program in Dietetics) offers an academic curriculum to prepare students to be accepted into a dietetic internship to become a Registered Dietitian or into a graduate program, or to pursue a career in a food, nutrition or related field. The Applied Nutrition program offers an academic curriculum to prepare students to pursue a career in a food, nutrition or related field.

Program Goals
The program will:

  1. prepare graduates to become nutrition professionals.
  2. prepare graduates to become dedicated learners throughout life and career.
  3. foster a variety of careers in food and nutrition.
  4. enable students to develop technology proficiency.
  5. prepare Coordinated Program in Dietetics and Nutrition and Dietetics concentration students who have completed a dietetic internship to pass the Registration Exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of The American Dietetic Association.
