My Story: Framingham State University has changed my life in many ways. The community, including the professors, friends, and acquaintances I have gained here have made my time at FSU an extremely rewarding educational experience. Every day I go to classes in which I can be myself and express my thoughts and ideas while feeling confident, and this makes me a proud fashion major. I transferred to Framingham State during my sophomore year in 2014, and since then I have been involved in many different opportunities on- and off-campus. In the past year I have attended a national fashion industry trade show, MAGIC, and interned at the corporate offices of TJX, located right here in Framingham.

In addition to my major, I have a minor in Communication Arts and a concentration in Fashion Merchandising. I’m also a Dean’s List student. I feel like the merchandising classes – particularly the technology we use – have prepared me for working in the industry. I know that skills in Excel and MockShop will help me in my future career.

My Internship: I am an intern at the TJX Companies, working in their Product Development department. My focus is on Ladies Merino Wool Sweaters. We design and then develop various styles of sweaters that are sold around the world, including the following chains: T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, T.K. Maxx, Winners, Sierra Trading Post, and Trade Secret. At TJX, the product development role encompasses a mix of design, technical design and product development; so I get to be a part of the entire process. I am truly motivated to work at the world’s leading off price retailer, as every day is new and exciting following the quick trends.

After graduation I hope to continue on my career path at TJX and become a product development specialist. I am very interested in the creative aspect of fashion and enjoy exploring the fun and innovative ways to follow the latest trends. I am always keeping an eye out for what each season has to offer. The product we put in our stores allows one to express themselves through their clothing and the way they dress and that is fascinating.
