Welcome to the Office of Academic
Affairs
Welcome to
Framingham State College and the
Office of Academic Affairs’ web
site. As you read about – or even
better, visit -- our
academic departments and the
programs they offer as well as
the
academic support and
student support services that
contribute to students’ academic and
social development both in and out
of the classroom, I think you will
find that a spirit of engagement
characterizes the education and
extracurricular activities that take
place at Framingham.
Our faculty are
first and foremost teachers, and
they teach with a passion that comes
not only from loving their subject
matter, but also the excitement and
joy of sharing that knowledge. Many
of them have incorporated the use of
academic technology into their
teaching strategies, engaging the
technology not as an end in itself,
but as a way to assist their
students in being active partners in
the learning process. Framingham
was the first among the state
colleges to require laptops and to
incorporate technology into many of
its academic programs. We are, to
put it simply, an institution that
cares about and values high-quality
teaching and learning.
Our professors
are also professionals, engaged with
their disciplines as both scholars
and practitioners. In addition to
their publications and presentations
at professional conferences, many of
our faculty are practicing their
disciplines through public service.
For example, the Framingham State
College has established several
centers or
institutes where faculty and
staff provide professional outreach
to the community. These include the
Christa Corrigan McAuliffe Center
for Education and Teaching
Excellence, the MetroWest Economic
Research Center, the John Stalker
Institute for Food and Nutrition,
the Center for Global Education, the
MetroWest Science Technology
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
Pipeline Center, the Center for
Social Research, and the Institute
for Food Science, Technology and
Nutritional Biochemistry.
Students will
find many opportunities to engage
and involve themselves in their
education – from research
experiences under the tutelage of
faculty to internships and field
experiences to a wealth of
co-curricular and extracurricular
activities that offer leadership
opportunities, the chance to pursue
and develop interests, and, of
course, the settings to connect with
other students, faculty and staff.
I hope these
web pages will provide the
information you are seeking on the
people and programs that make up
Framingham State College. We are a
community worth joining.
Sincerely,
Robert A.
Martin, Ph.D.
