In the Mood for Manhattan
The
Office of Alumni Relations hosted a day of holiday shopping and sight
seeing in New York City on Dec. 2. Alumni and their guests were
invited to plan their own day, with a little help from the Alumni
Relations staff. Alumni received an FSC tote bag packed with a "NYC
Survival Pack" guide for planning the day's activities, snacks and a
disposable camera.
While
en route to and from New York City, alumni competed in two trivia
contests for the highly coveted Framingham State College clock prizes.
The Driscoll Family certainly knew their Holiday Trivia, while
Michelle Watson reigned victorious over all trivia regarding New York
City.
In Manhattan, alumni enjoyed a walking tour of the holiday displays
along Fifth Avenue. Some shopped until they dropped, taking advantage
of sales at Saks Fifth Avenue or just indulging at Tiffany & Co.
Others took in shows, ice skated at Rockefeller Center or headed off
on tours of the Big Apple. Then there were those who used the
opportunity to simply meet up with friends for spontaneous fun.
A good time was had by all - "We just wish we could have stayed
longer," said Jen Demos '01.

Homecoming
Weekend 2006
Homecoming and Family Weekend 2006 (Oct. 20 – 22,
2006) began with breakfast – the Annual Moonlite Breakfast, that is.
Students enjoyed what is normally the first meal of the day late
Friday night. It was just the beginning of a full, festive weekend
organized by the FSC College Community.
On Saturday, Framingham State College’s 15th
President, Dr. Timothy J. Flanagan, and his wife, Dr. Nancy A.
Flanagan, hosted the President’s Brunch while the Volleyball team
squared off against conference foe MCLA, ultimately taking the win,
3-0. Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team was victorious over the
Trailblazers of MCLA, 1-0. Men’s soccer fought equally hard, also
beating MCLA, 1-0. In the afternoon, Framingham State College took on
Maine Maritime Academy in an edge-of-your-seat Homecoming football
game. Students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff filled the stands
to capacity for the Big Game, and spirits were high as the Rams fought
from behind. Unfortunately, the Rams couldn’t catch up, losing to MMA,
40-24.
The Framingham State College Alumni Association
hosted a post-game tailgate reception under a large tent at the field,
where attendees munched on mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers and
buffalo wings while enjoying beer and wine as the festivities of the
day continued. The Time Warp Trivia Game Show…and Dinner rounded out
the day as teams competed to win cash prizes.
Of course, what Homecoming Weekend would be
complete without a fall concert? This year’s Verizon Wireless Tour
with The All-American Rejects at Nevins Hall in Framingham on Sunday
ended the weekend with a roar. “The whole place was shaking,” said
Julie Govain, ’07. “It was a great weekend.”

In
Memoriam: Dr. Constance B. Jordan '41
Dr. Constance Brine Jordan ’41 was
an active member of the Framingham State College community for more
than 65 years - first as a student and then as a faculty member,
administrator and trustee. The educator, colleague and mentor to many
died September 7, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
Dr. Jordan graduated from Framingham
State College with a bachelor of science in education. She went on to
receive a master’s in public health from Harvard University in 1948
and a doctorate in nutrition and biochemistry from Cornell University
in 1954. She worked as a faculty member at the University of Rhode
Island from 1948 until 1956, when she returned to her beloved alma
mater, FSC, to assume a faculty position.
At FSC, she rose to the position of
chair of the Home Economics Department, serving in the position from
1957 to 1973. She became the first graduate dean at the College.
Upon retiring in 1983, she still maintained an active association with
the College. In 1987, the professor emerita received an honorary
doctoral degree. She continued to serve the College as a member of the
Alumni Association Board. In 2002, she was appointed as a member of
the Board of Trustees, serving in that role until her death.
Even as her health declined, Dr.
Jordan attended FSC's 2006 Graduation Ceremony to personally present a
degree to one of the last students she mentored. In the last year of
her life, she also established the Constance B. Jordan Scholarship to
continue to help students even after her passing.
Her association with Framingham
State College also touched her family. Residing for many years at the
base of the College hill, she often was seen with her husband, the
late John Q. Jordan, at many FSC functions. Her children were often
present on campus with her and some of their children attended
Framingham State. Dr. Jordan is survived by three daughters, Kathleen
Introini and her husband Davide, Elizabeth Borges and Mary Jordan; one
son, Kirk Jordan and his wife Lori; one sister Elizabeth Angier; nine
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Contributions to the Constance B.
Jordan Scholarship Fund can be sent to the Office of Development and
Alumni Relations Office, Framingham State College, 100 State St.,
Framingham, MA 01701.

IN CONCERT.
These days, FSC students enjoy concerts featuring bands such
as The All-American Rejects, but back in the '70s, performers like Richie Havens
came to campus. Here, students enjoy a campus-sponsored concert during the
1970s. Can you help fill in some of the groovy details? Any familiar faces?

7 McCauliffe Scholars Recognized
Seven Framingham State College students received scholarship
awards at the 20th annual Christa Corrigan McAuliffe Scholarship Banquet in
October.
Banquet attendees enjoyed a reception before the dinner and
awards ceremony at the newly renovated College Center. Madison Dennis of Oxford,
Kara Giuliano of Foxboro, Britni Mahan of Medway, Carolyn McGrath of
Westborough, Christine McMahon of Framingham, Meghan Patrick of North Grafton
and Jillian Sharpe of Needham were presented their scholarship awards by Grace
Corrigan '79, mother of Christa Corrigan McAuliffe '74. McAuliffe, a social
studies teacher from Concord, N.H., was selected from thousands of applicants to
be NASA's first civilian astronaut. She died when the Challenger space shuttle
exploded on January 28, 1986.
The Christa Corrigan McAuliffe Center for Education and Teaching
Excellence at FSC established the awards program to honor McAuliffe and her
commitment to teaching. Awards are granted to candidates who present exemplary
academic credentials combined with noteworthy achievement in the special talent
area. Since its inception in the 1986-87 academic year, the scholarship fund has
provided more than $300,000 in direct financial aid to Framingham State College
students.

Biology Department and Professor Barbara Milot of the Art Department to give
concurrent workshops, which were followed by a panel discussion. The event
concluded with a reception and book signing.
