PBTL in Art Education

The Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure (PBTL) program at Framingham State University is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's degree and are seeking Massachusetts Initial Teacher Licensure. The PBTL program is offered for teacher licensure at the early childhood level (PreK-2, the elementary level (1-6), and in academic subject areas.

Applicants to the visual art Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure program will have an interview and portfolio review as part of the application process.


Program Requirements:

Visual Art Pre-K to Grade 8
EDUC 992 Learning and Human Development
PBTL 910 Education Foundations
PBTL 001 Field Study I* (1/2 day per week, 36 hours total, take with PBTL 910)
EDUC 222 Sheltered English Immersion

Fall Semester Only
EDUC 300 Professional Preparation II: Special Education & Instructional Technology
EDUC 319 Professional Preparation & Field Study II* (total of 72 hours): VisualArt Pre-K - Grade 8 and Grades 5 - 12 (Professional Preparation meets Monday 6:00 - 10:00. Field Study II is 6 hrs/one full day per week for 12 weeks.)

Spring Semester Only
EDUC 412 Student Teaching Practicum and Seminar I: Visual Art Pre-K - Grade 8
EDUC 413 Student Teaching Practicum and Seminar II: Visual Art Pre-K - Grade 8

Student Teaching Practicum and Seminar I & II are considered a full course load (4 course credits and tuition plus fees for 4 courses). Placements are Monday through Friday all day; no other courses may be taken during this semester. Students meet at FSU one afternoon a week for the practicum seminar.

In order to enroll in EDUC 319, students must pass the communication and literacy tests of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) as well as EDUC 992 and PBTL 910. In order to enroll in the student teaching practicum, students must pass the visual art subject test of the MTEL, EDUC 222, EDUC 300 and EDUC 319.
