Dear Students, Families, and Colleagues:
There is no place that evokes thoughts of historical
significance quite as much as New England, and Framingham State College
has long been an integral part of that heritage. Under the leadership of
the renowned educator, Horace Mann, Framingham State College was founded
in 1839 as the first public college in America to offer teacher
preparation. Since that auspicious beginning, Framingham State College has
flourished and expanded, and now provides extensive liberal arts and
professional programs to a diversified and ever-increasing population with
worldwide representation.
Small classes, pleasant surroundings, state-of-the-art
facilities, including a new Athletic and Recreation Center and a restored
Ecumenical and Cultural Center, together with an outstanding faculty made
up of nationally recognized scholars and experts in their fields, provide
exciting, comprehensive and first-rate educational opportunities. Add to
that, superior living quarters wired for computer hook-up and Internet
accessibility, a wide array of co-curricular activities, with inclusive
programming and services to meet the needs of a varied student population,
and you have all the ingredients for a challenging, well-rounded, and
outstanding college experience.
Framingham State College overlooks the town of
Framingham, a dynamic and thriving community within the MetroWest environs
where students will find entertainment, shopping, and outdoor recreation
areas all within walking distance of campus. And while Framingham State
College is a part of the quieter suburbs, the city of Boston, with its
innumerable cultural opportunities, sporting events, and urban vitality,
is within easy traveling distance.
I hope you will take the opportunity to get to know us
and learn first hand all that Framingham State College has to offer. We
look forward to welcoming you to our academic community.
