If a student is enrolled in a course with a laboratory component that he/she has completed in a previous semester, the student should expect to have to retake both the lecture and the laboratory portions of the course. If the laboratory portion of the course was completed with a documented lab grade of B- or higher, the student may be exempted from the laboratory, at the sole discretion of the primary instructor. If a student is granted the laboratory exemption, the grade for the course will be based solely on the grade the student earns in the lecture. A prior grade for the laboratory, earned in a different semester, will not be factored into the grade for the course. Exceptions to this policy can only be made by the instructor with permission of the Chair of the Department.
*UPCOMING POLICY CHANGE
As of the 2015-2016 academic year, students repeating a course in the Department of Chemistry and Food Science will have to repeat both lecture and lab. Students can no longer receive a lab exemption based on the previous Department policy.
