The Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) preparation workshops are provided for prospective teachers who need to brush up for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education exams. Over 1,500 students have participated in our workshops over the past ten years.
WorkshopsOne Day Workshop: Preparation for the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (CLST)
This intensive workshop is designed for current education students; professionals seeking a career change; and those with excellent English language skills. Workbooks are provided. Participants will review the structure of the MTEL Communication and Literacy Test; learn strategies of the Reading and Writing subtests; practice grammar and usage; and prepare for open-ended responses and essays.

Six Saturdays to Success Workshop: Preparation for the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (CLST)
For individuals who have had difficulty with the MTEL or testing in general, and for those who feel the need for more intense preparation. Participants are given homework assignments in Weeks 1 - 4, which will be evaluated by the workshop facilitators.

Week #1
Participants will review the structure of the MTEL CLST and learn strategies for passing the Reading subtest.
Week #2
Participants will learn the best strategy for the mechanics sections of the writing test.
Week #3
Participants will cover the grammar and usage component of the CLST, and review common grammar issues.
Week #4
The Written Summary and Written Composition exercises are covered in depth.
Week #5
Participants take a full-length simulation examination that includes both a Reading and Writing subtest.
Week #6
Participants receive scores from their simulation examinations as well as individualized feedback on their written essays.

About the MTEL ExamThe Commonwealth presently administers MTEL examinations five times yearly: March, May, July, September, and November. The deadline to register for the exams takes place approximately six weeks before the date of the exam.
