education, consultation, evaluation and/or treatment to Framingham State
College students for mental health issues related to their personal
adjustment and educational progress. We also collaborate with and provide
consultation to faculty and administrative staff regarding mental health
issues affecting the education process.
The Counseling Center is the place to come when you have a personal concern and want to talk privately with a counselor to explore possible options in an objective, accepting way. Students come to the Counseling Center for a variety of reasons. Many students seek help for issues relating to the problems and stresses of college life. You can come in for a specific concern or just to see a friendly face and have someone to talk to. Our services are available at no cost to matriculated Framingham State College Students. It is easy to make an appointment: either stop in or call us at (508) 626-4640. If you call after hours, you can leave a message on the answering machine and someone will return your call during office hours. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday through Friday. Most appointments are made within a day or two of contact. Our walk-in time is 2 to 3 p.m. A counselor is always available during that time and you don't need an appointment. If you have a concern about another student or friend, you can stop in during walk-in time or call to make an appointment. A counselor can advise you and will discuss ways you might be helpful. If you feel suicidal please call the Counseling Center immediately. If you feel suicidal or are in a crisis and the Counseling Center is not open, call Advocates Psychiatric Emergency Services at (508) 872-3333. Residence Hall staff and Campus Police (508) 626-4911 are also available to offer assistance. Counseling Center sessions are normally 50 minutes long and are scheduled on the hour. During your initial session a counselor will talk to you about your concerns and assist you in determining whether additional sessions will be helpful. An agreement will be reached between you and your counselor about the best approach to your problem. Sessions usually meet once a week. There are no maximum number of sessions per student. All information given to the Counseling Center or an individual counselor is confidential and will not be shared with any person or organization without your written consent, unless it is to protect you or someone else from imminent harm.
