Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) 
Preparation Workshops
The MTEL preparation workshops are provided for prospective teachers who need to brush up for the DOE exams. Over 1,500 students have participated in our workshops over the past ten years.

MTEL Test dates are: May 10 and July 19, 2008.
Note: additional CLST test dates are: June 14 and August 2, 2008.

About the MTEL Exam
The Commonwealth presently administers MTEL examinations five times yearly: March, May, July, September, and November. The deadline to register for the exams takes place approximately six weeks before the date of the exam. Summer 2008 MTEL Workshops
One-Day Workshop: Communication and Literacy Skills Test (CLST)
This intensive workshop is designed for current education students; professionals seeking a career change; and those with excellent English language skills. Workbooks are provided.

Participants will review the structure of the MTEL Communication and Literacy Test; learn strategies of the Reading and Writing subtests; practice grammar and usage; and prepare for open-ended responses and essays.

Foundations of Reading Workshop
Applicants for Initial Licensure in Early Childhood and Elementary Education must take the MTEL Foundations of Reading Test in addition to other required tests. The Foundations of Reading Test evaluates candidates on their understanding of reading instruction. This workshop will review content in all of the sub-areas of the test, including the role of phonics and phonemic awareness in reading development; the development of reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition; formal and informal assessments of reading skills; and multiple approaches to reading instruction.
