1. Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program and must submit an official transcript from each college or university attended as an undergraduate or graduate student.

  2. Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate quality grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in a BSN program, including a quality grade point average of at least 3.25 in nursing courses. An applicant who does not meet these criteria may be asked to take the Miller Analogies Test and have an official score submitted.

  3. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate, introductory course in statistics with a grade of C or better grade.

  4. Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation from professors, supervisors, and/or colleagues, submitted on the Framingham State College Letter of Recommendation form and sent directly to the College by the recommender.

  5. Applicants must submit a typed, 300-word personal statement discussing their motivation for seeking a master's degree in view of prior formal education, current job responsibilities and career plans.

  6. Applicants must have a personal interview with the Nursing Department Chairperson or Graduate Program Coordinator.

Additional Criteria for Success in the MSN Program:

  • Working knowledge of computers and access to the Internet (all courses have significant online components)
  • Current knowledge of the research process

If an otherwise qualified student does not meet these criteria, the Admissions Committee will provide academic advice to help the individual prepare for admission.

Note: You must have Citizenship, Residency or Visa Status such that you may pursue part-time education in the USA for at least two years (F, J and M Visas are not supported).

Additional Information

Due date: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the fall semester of even years only. Completed applications should be on file by July 1. Applications received after this date cannot be guaranteed timely matriculation. The Admissions Committee will begin review of an application only upon receipt of official copies of all required documents.

Transfer Credits

Courses previously completed for the Framingham State College Certificate in Nursing Education Program with a minimum grade of B are transferable towards the MSN. Other coursework will not generally be accepted for transfer credit.

Note: Applications remaining incomplete for over one year will be discarded.
