14.725 Spelling Matters: Strategies for Assessing and Teaching (Gr. 2-61) - Explores the intricacies of spelling development as well as ways of collecting and analyzing children’s spelling attempts.  Analysis of the strategies which young writers use while spelling will serve to anchor discussions about appropriate instructional mediations.  Students will examine current thinking and research about spelling instruction.
14.731 Lifelong Issues in Student Health (3) - Designed to provide participants with information regarding the health status of the youth of Massachusetts.  Using the human development approach, this course gives teachers a tool to study the history and development of attitudes regarding cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and sexuality of the state’s youth.  Teachers use this information to develop integrated health and common core lessons in their classrooms in line with the Massachusetts Health frameworks.
14.757 Integrating Music into Your Curricular Area – Part I (3) - Explores the elements of music, rhythm, melody, form, and dynamics. The goals of the course are to make the educator feel more comfortable making musical responses through a variety of music and movement activities, as well as providing specific lessons that permit the incorporation of music into course content areas.
14.758 Integrating Music into Your Curricular Area – Part II (3) - A continuation of Integrating Music into Your Curriculum – Part I.  Participants explore more elements of music and how they can infuse curriculum with excitement. Students gain more confidence in their musical abilities so they can aid their students in learning, understanding and achievement.
14.771 Consensus Building in School Related Situations  (3) - Focuses on improving the teacher’s ability to deal with difficult situations whether caused by disruptive students, their parents, colleagues with varying agendas, or overly rigid school personnel.  Consensus and team building skills are stressed.  A weekly log and research paper are required.
14.782 Painting in the Elementary School (3) - Designed to inform teachers (regular education as well as art teachers) how learning various painting techniques, along with the study of master painters who created them, can be integrated into the elementary curriculum.  By learning the process of various painting techniques, which are not difficult to do, teachers will be able to encourage their students to use painting in their classroom projects.
14.788  Basic Drawing for the Elementary Classroom (3) - Provides elementary school teachers with the basic skills necessary to draw and to teach basic drawing with ease and confidence.  We will study free form and basic shapes, one point perspective, draw portraits and landscapes.  Pencils, charcoal, oil pastels, pen and ink will be among the many tools explored during this class.   The class will view famous works of art through books, videos and take trips to a local gallery or museum.
14.793 Legal Aspects of Student Discipline in Massachusetts  (3) - Designed for school administrators, headmasters, coordinators, department heads, and educators who deal with discipline issues on a daily basis.  This course examines the numerous legal decisions, statutes, and regulations that all school employees should be aware of and consider in their work when disciplining students.
15.710 Integrating Beginning Teachers into the School Culture (1) - Focuses on classroom management, the MCAS and other assessment tools, the curriculum frameworks, special education issues, and the use of technology in the classroom.
15.748 Integrating Art into the Curriculum (3) - Provides teachers of all grade levels with the tools to incorporate art and its various implications into the curriculum in accordance with the Curriculum Frameworks for various areas in strands that refer to interdisciplinary connections.  Participants will become familiar with a variety of artists, their work, the eras in which they lived and will be prepared to create a unit, project or activity that directly addresses the learning needs of the target group.
16.730 Science of Exercise (3) - Designed to provide participants with an understanding of a safe and effective exercise program.  Topics include muscular structure and conditioning, cardiovascular fitness regimens, nutrition and body composition, performance enhancing supplements and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
16.731 Strategies for Implementing the Foreign Language Framework (Gr. 7-12) (3) - A comprehensive, hands-on study of the Massachusetts Foreign Language Framework designed for practicing teachers 7-12 in public and private schools.  Participants learn a variety of strategies for implementing each component of the framework into various styles of lesson plans.
16.765 Handwriting: Enrichment and Implementation (3) - Addresses the significant issues surrounding handwriting as an art form and a diagnostic tool.  The history of handwriting and the various methods, mind sets and materials utilized in evaluating one’s handwriting are explored.  Research is examined and critical and creative approaches to graphic problems are explored.
16.768 Creative Paper Projects in the Elementary Classroom (3) - Provides a hands-on approach to teaching paper projects.  Participants make paper, paper mache, origami, and other paper art projects.  The history and culture surrounding paper is also explored.  The course includes class demonstrations, videos, and examination of contemporary paper art.
