14.702 Computer Applications for K-5 Curriculum (3) - Concentrates on increasing the participant’s understanding of the academic, linguistic, and sociocultural issues surrounding students who speak a language other than English at home.  The focus of the course will be particularly on middle and high school students who come to school with low literacy skills in their native language and English.  Through the format of the study group, participants will collaboratively work on a written report containing recommendations for implementing sound educational practices for this group of students.

Integrating Technology K-5  (3) - Provides elementary school teachers and specialists with an intensive, hands-on experience with high quality instructional/information technology in support of Curriculum Frameworks and relevant national standards.  Activities are project-oriented, with periods for discussion and reflection.    The course is designed to give all participants, regardless of initial technical skill level, the foundation necessary to develop curriculum that integrates technology in meaningful ways in support of curriculum frameworks.

14.791 Word Processing and Draw using Clarisworks (1) - Focuses on the word processing and draw aspects and applications of ClarisWorks.  Emphasis will be on a step-by-step process of learning the commands and features that create processing documents.  Educational/classroom applications will be stressed.
15.716 Web Site Design for Today’s Educator (1) - A course in web page design and management primarily focused on the educator.  Learn skills and fundamentals of building a web site using HTML programming and photographic image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop, both of which will help participants create their first web site.
15.720   Computer Technologies and Curriculum Development (4) - Explores in depth the use of new technologies in developing curriculum.  Consideration is given to integrated curriculum development, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches, which go beyond the usual classroom approaches.  A secondary objective is to increase skill in using the computer as a teaching tool, including the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications.
15.729 Elementary Teachers Technology Institute (2) - Gives teachers the opportunity to work with both technology and curriculum specialists to practice and develop techniques for using instructional tools and software to support curriculum units.  Teachers also incorporate student technology benchmarks into these units at the appropriate grade level of discipline.
15.737 Multimedia and the Classroom (3) - Designed to enable teachers to incorporate multimedia technologies such as digital cameras, video, and audio equipment into the curriculum.  Assessment and effective management of a multimedia classroom is a major part of the course.

Weaving the Internet into Your Curriculum (3) - Introduces the educational resources available on the Internet.  Using classroom curriculum as a foundation, teachers learn about telecommunications using e-mail, listservs, and newsgroups.  The use of audio and graphics, creation of web pages, and how to do research on the World Wide Web are also covered.

15.751 Web Site Design and Management for the Educator (3) - Focuses on web page design and management primarily for the educator.  Participants will learn skills and fundamentals of building a web site using Microsoft FrontPage 98 and 2000.  This course will provide an overview of HTML programming and web page imaging which will help you create and configure your first web site.  Research on educational strategies to best utilize your web site as an educational resource with students, parents, administrators, and other educators will be explored.
15.765   Introduction to Assistive Technology (3) - Educators are increasingly called upon to incorporate assistive technologies as well as universal curriculum design principles into their classrooms to accommodate the diverse learning needs of their students.  This course provides “real world” training, resources and skill development in using the latest software, adaptive equipment, and “best practices”.  Participants make decisions with supportive guidance resulting in practical solutions that can be readily implemented for inclusive classrooms.
15.768 Assistive Technology Assessment (3) - Recent legislation requires special education professionals to design interventions using assistive and adaptive technology as a vehicle to individualize instruction.  This course allows special education team members to explore technology assessment strategies and computer devices which match learner characteristics and assist learners with intensive special needs as they perform functional tasks and achieve increased independence.
15.769 Today’s Technology for Educators (3) - Introduces participants to various microcomputer concepts and provides hands-on experience in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and obtaining information using the Internet.
15.778 Building a Technology Enriched Curriculum (3) - Addresses the coherent integration of multiple technologies into the core curriculum subjects of high school.  Participants reshape an existing curriculum unit or build a new one to include multimedia presentations.  Particular emphasis is placed on aligning the curriculum units with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
15.785  Today’s Technology for Educators II (3) - Expands knowledge of various microcomputer concepts including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and the Internet. Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook are also introduced.
15.797 Teaching and Learning with Technology (3) - Focuses on offering teachers an opportunity to expand their knowledge of appropriate computer software in a way that will enable them to integrate technology into the classroom.

Advanced Multimedia Projects (3) - A course for those who are already familiar with multimedia-rich software.  Participants will learn advanced multimedia techniques and develop at least two curriculum projects that can be shared and used in the classroom.

16.705 Web Page Graphics for the Educator (3) - Addresses the use of Adobe Photoshop to enhance and manipulate digital images used in web page design.  Starting with an overview of the tools available in Photoshop, the course will examine a number of topics, such as color correction, image layers, photo retouching, filter effects, and others.  With web page design becoming more common as teachers develop curriculum based web quests and other classroom projects, a knowledge of how to use this tool to improve the quality and creativity of web page graphics will be inevitable.
16.709 Smart Surfing: Spending Productive Time on the Internet (1) - Provides an opportunity for educators to learn to use Internet resources to design classroom projects, ideas, and goals, which are directly linked to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
16.722 Webquests: Learning Adventures on the Internet (2) - Provides an opportunity to learn how to utilize teacher-chosen Internet resources to design lessons or units that enable students to have a focused, exciting, and rich experience on the internet.
16.750 Web Research and Authoring for the Educator (3) - Focuses on using the computer and the Internet as a research tool and developing web pages to enhance the classroom curriculum.  The features of several search engines are considered and criteria for evaluating web sites are established.  Participants create curriculum web pages that reflect their classroom practice and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
16.756 Integrating Technology Tools for Curriculum Innovation (3) - Presents the knowledge and skills required to develop unit or lesson plans that integrate student use of technology in the classroom.  Topics covered include: Internet-Search and Link, Teacher/Student Homepage, Desktop Publishing, Classroom Software Toolkit, AVID Cinema, and Digital Imaging.
16.766 Using the IBM-PC as an Educational Tool – Part II (3) - A curriculum project based course in which educators learn how to make presentations using graphics, sound and video.  The Internet is explored for educational resources and curriculum research. Prerequisite: Using the Computer as an Educational Tool – Part I or permission of the instructor.

Creating Computer Simulations for the Classroom (3) - Introduces teachers to the fundamentals of modeling complex, dynamic systems using StarLogo.  Participants will learn to build models appropriate to their classes on topics ranging from demographics to predator-prey dynamics and from particle collisions to market economics.  Students will also work with other faculty to create supporting curricular materials and devise strategies for bringing the materials back to the classroom.
