English majors and Interdisciplinary Language Arts Majors who wish to prepare for careers teaching grades PreK-2 or grades 1-6 add a Coordinate Major in Early Childhood or Elementary Education and complete an Initial Licensure program.
English majors who wish to teach English in middle school or high school add a minor in Secondary Education English and complete an Initial Licensure program for middle school (grades 5-8) or high school (grades 8-12).
Graduates with a bachelor's degree may choose the Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure (PBTL) program to obtain Initial Licensure. Applications are made through the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education.
To complete a Professional Licensure program, teachers may apply for the Master of Education with a Concentration in English through the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education.
