Graduates of our Apparel Design Program have many choices of interesting careers such as:
Fashion Designer Technical Designer/Specification Technician Patternmaker Costumer
A Designer is responsible for developing design concepts, sketching ideas, choosing fabrics and colors, and keeping up with current market trends. Must have good management and communication skills. Oversees associate designers, assistant designers, patternmakers and sample stitchers.
An Associate Designer and an Assistant Designer work with the designer to source fabric and trims, prepare presentation boards, and create the documents to produce the fit samples and production samples.
A Technical Designer/Specification Technician is responsible for managing the design concept through the sketching, patternmaking, fitting, construction and communication with domestic and overseas factories. Must have computer skills. Must be able to draw detailed flat sketches, review fabric and construction standards, write garment specifications, oversee patternmaking process, and evaluate fit on a model or mannequin.
A Patternmaker is responsible for developing all the pattern pieces for a garment. Must be detail oriented and have strong knowledge of patternmaking and fit.
