My primary goal is teaching undergraduate students. I find
students inquisitive and anxious to learn. My personal philosophy of teaching
is: students must know theory, practice the knowledge they discover, and apply
what they learn to the real world. Framingham is a suburb of Boston and we are
fortunate to have apparel design and retail merchandising establishments a short
distance from campus enabling students to combine their studies with practical
experience.
Both apparel design and merchandising students take the
courses I teach. Under “courses” you will see more detail about the theory,
practice, and application that prepares students for future careers.
Student projects vary from class to class. Consumer
markets are studied in a variety of perspectives. Each course focuses on how
apparel and retail companies must know their target market and the behavior of
the customer. Teaching techniques vary including lecture, discussion, case
study, student presentations, use of wireless laptop computers, a variety of
computer software packages, and field trips. I change my teaching method and
content based on the needs of the student, class, career paths, society, and
events in the world economy.
Student projects win statewide competitions in
undergraduate research, work with companies to advance their studies, and
prepare for the future fashion world.
