Publications

Publications in professional journals include Dress of Italian American Women in the North End of Boston; Teaching Retail Mathematics; Computers in the classroom; and the Use of wireless laptop computers. 

Other publications include a Research in the Fashion Industry: Learning Guide for Psychological and Sociological Aspects of Clothing and Textiles, used by students.  

My students and I have participated in developing case studies of retail companies and writing research proposals to understand a target market.  See examples under “student work.”                                  

 

Research Interest

Through research I am able to stay at the forefront of what is happening in the industry.  Topics include:

Consumer buying habits related to psychology and sociology of clothing

Body Image: including history, body ideal & anorexia nervosa

Cross-cultural differences among subgroups in a society; Italian American

Clothing and textiles researchers and teachers

Case studies of companies in fashion

Changes in retail malls

The world market including the European Union, North American Free Trade Agreement and World Trade Organization

Designs for children with physical disabilities
