Getting Started Using SkyGazer Installing the program SkyGazer can be run directly from the CD, but it will run faster if you copy the SkyGazer folder to your hard drive. This program does not use the traditional "setup" program - SkyGazer does not install any files in the Windows directory nor does it change the Windows Registry. To copy SkyGazer to your hard disk:
Running the program Navigate to where you copied the SkyGazerCE folder to. In the SkyGazer folder you will find the program, SkyGazer.exe. Simply double-click on it to start the program. Saving the proper defaults The first time you run SkyGazer you will need to set your home location and the time. First, double-click inside the Location Panel. The Set Location box pops up. Click the button in the lower right that says "List Cities." Click on Boston in the list, and click the Select button. Then make sure the Time Zone is set to -5 hours. To adjust the time, click Now in the Time Panel. Check this against your system clock. If they match, you're all set. If they are off by 1 hour, then you need to adjust for daylight savings time. Double-click in the Time Panel. In the Set Time box that pops up, check or uncheck the Daylight Savings Time checkbox, and click OK. Click the Now button in the Time Panel again, and it should now show the correct time and date. If you still have problems, contact me. Once location and time are set, save these as your defaults - Go to the File menu, select Save Settings, and choose one of the two options (or you can type Ctrl+S). Name your file startup. What's Next? Play! See what happens when you select different things. You can't mess anything up - if things start to look bad just close the program and start it again. Also, there are many demos you can look at and play with - Go to the File menu and select Open Settings... Double-click either the Basics folder or the Demos folder, and open any of the files that look interesting. Have fun! |
