Dominique LaBelle
An Evening of Operatic Opulence
February 28, 2008

"Comments from Mark"
On February 28th my Dominique, James Busby, Frank Kelley and Paula Murrihy came to our Heineman Ecumenical and Cultural Center and put on a wonderful concert of operatic opulence!
She programmed a little surprise for the audience which ended up being a surprise for me as well; that I should join with her in a duet from Carmen.
To say I’m madly in love with her and her singing is an understatement, but singing with me darlin’ before people well known to us both was…daunting.  Her lush voice with its unparalleled honesty and beauty had already caused my skin to tingle and face to flush.  All hope for me was lost when right smack dab in the middle of the proceedings the staging in the score requires a kiss, the kind of kiss simply given that communicated our years together, the struggles, the delights, our children… our life, all in that one moment.
I struggled to continue, for all I wanted to do was weep.  She pulled me through as she always has.  James Busby’s beautiful and supportive playing was no small comfort in bringing me back to task as well.

This little clip is courtesy of our dear friend Connie Patten who recorded it from the audience.
Enjoy the glorious singing of Dominique Labelle!
