FSU Foundations is a program designed to assist first-year students in their transition to Framingham State. Many new students struggle with the adjustment to college. Some have a difficult time with the freedom of being away from home. Others find it hard to adjust to the new culture and expectations that come with being a member of a college community. This program is designed to help students deal with these issues and many more in supporting and encouraging ways.

College is a time for personal growth and reflection. Students taking part in this program will build on the activities and discussions taking place during Orientation, on the Class Blackboard site, and Black and Gold Beginnings, in which all students will participate. In classes that have enrollment limited to 20 students, engaging discussions will occur, encouraging students to think of themselves as life-long learners and help them understand what it takes to be successful in college. By taking part in thought provoking conversations, students will come to understand the rigors of college, while at the same time recognizing the need to become a well-rounded person. Meaningful connections to the faculty, administrators and Peer Mentors will be established due to the engaging environment and thought provoking exercises encouraging all to participate.

The academic environment is a challenging one due to the high expectations. Many students struggle with these new requirements. This program will help students understand what it takes to succeed and be a positive influence in their new community.
