Our evening program offers five levels of ESL as well as advanced content courses for students with a limited amount of time. Students can study 4 or 8 hours a week.
Placement Test
Placement tests are given before the start of classes to determine your level of English. You must be registered before you can be tested. All new students must take the test.

Location: D. Justin McCarthy Center, Forum (2nd floor)

Course Schedule and Pricing
All evening courses are offered on Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday nights from 7:00pm-9:00pm. If there is low enrollment in a course, it will be combined with a similar course.
Program cost: $350
Payment must be made at the time of registration. Payment may be made by personal check, bank check, money order, Visa*, MasterCard*, Discover Card*, or American Express*. Cash is only accepted between 9:00am and 4:00pm at the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education (D. Justin McCarthy Center, room 515). Payment is due with registration. Register early to ensure your place in a class.

Community ESL Classes
Level Classes (1-5)
Improve your English communication
skills in beginner through high intermediate level classes. Curriculum includes
reading, writing, listening, and speaking skill development all in one
class.
Skill Building Classes (Advanced)
Students must complete levels 1-5 before taking Skill Building Classes.
TOEFL PreparationFor more information about the Community ESL Programs offered at Framingham State University contact:
Provides opportunity for students to achieve advanced skills in English as they learn strategies for approaching each section of the TOEFL exam. Increase knowledge of various test-taking strategies and learn listening, grammar, and reading skills to meet requirements of the Institutional (paper-based exam) TOEFL exam. Some skills and strategies for the written essay and speaking sections of the iBT TOEFL are also covered. The Institutional TOEFL is administered at the end of each semester.
Students must be at level 4 or higher to take one of the following classes:
Communication Skills
This class strives to improve self-confidence when speaking in groups by strengthening the student’s ability to communicate, focusing on spoken, listening and written skills. Topics include preparing and giving presentations, interviewing, and correcting both the sounds of English and spoken grammar. This class is oriented toward advanced students and professionals desiring to communicate more effectively in the workplace, community, and school environment.
Workplace English
Designed for students who are interested in navigating the workplace environment with more skill and confidence. The class focuses on conversation and written skills for the workplace including business etiquette, e-mail correspondence, use of forms, simple math, business vocabulary, understanding and giving directions, and asking and answering work-related questions.
Focus on Writing
De-mystify the process of writing: Students of high intermediate and advanced level will learn how to write well-structured paragraphs and short essays in an interesting and supportive environment that focuses on individual learning needs. Useful for anyone who needs to communicate in writing in the workplace or academic environment.
