These weekly intensive English as a Second Language classes are designed for adults with a good knowledge of English, but limited time and immediate language objectives.

Platinum English will meet 3 to 6 hours each week for 15 weeks, from January 20 to April 28, 2010. The lessons and course materials are designed specifically for adults seeking to improve in any of the following areas:

  • business related language skills
  • language to increase job skills or employability
  • language skills in preparation for taking graduate and/or undergraduate courses.

Courses are offered at the college’s new Marlborough site: Massachusetts International Academy Building; 280 Locke Avenue, Marlborough, MA 01752 - Directions.

The courses will be taught by experienced instructors with both a business and language instruction background. Registrations are now being accepted for the following courses:

Registration and Payment

To register by mail or fax, download the Spring Platinum English ESL Registration Form. You may also register in person at the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education office.

Payment must be made at the time of registration. Payment may be made by personal check, bank check, money order, Visa*, MasterCard*, or Discover Card*. Cash is only accepted between 9:00am and 4:00pm at the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education (D. Justin McCarthy College Center, room 515). Payment is due with registration. Register early to ensure your place in a class.

*Credit card payments can be made online or in-person in the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education (D. Justin McCarthy College Center, room 515).

Platinum English ESL Classes

Session A: ESL Intensive/Specific Purpose Reading & Writing
Designed to improve reading and writing skills for advanced students who need English language skills for business, employment advancement, or higher education. Higher level, objective-centered, vocabulary, reading comprehension skills, and grammar, as well as objective-centered writing are the focus of the course. Material will be taken from relevant text books on the target subject, as well as current publications and other media sources. Students will have the opportunity to practice the language, structure, and vocabulary directly related to their needs, while examining and using references and creating templates to support their future professional or academic reading/writing projects.

  When: Wednesdays, 9:00am - 12:00pm
  Cost:   $600

Session B: ESL Intensive/Specific Purpose Listening & Speaking
Designed to improve listening and speaking skills for advanced students who need English language skills for business, employment advancement, or higher education. The focus of the course is on higher level, objective-centered, listening comprehension, note taking, and spoken language for specific situations, as well as awareness of culturally related aspects when speaking. A pronunciation, intonation and accent reduction component is also included. Students will have the opportunity to practice the language, structures, expressions and vocabulary directly related to their needs, while creating templates to support their future professional or academic listening/speaking projects.

  When: Wednesdays, 2:00pm - 5:00pm
  Cost:   $600

Sessions A & B: Intensive/Specific Purpose Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking
A combination of both Sessions A+B designed for advanced students with a broader and more pressing need to improve English language skills in business, employment advancement or academic areas.

  When: Wednesdays, 9:00am - 12:00pm & 2:00pm - 5:00pm
