Dr. Kenneth J. Preskenis, a member of the Framingham
State College Mathematics faculty from 1977 until his death in November
2002, had a passion for mathematics, learning, and teaching. He shared his
enthusiasm and his love of mathematics with college students as well as
with the children that he mentored in the Mathematics Olympics Program
that he founded in 1992. His love of teaching and for sharing mathematics
with others led him to contemplate how students learn problem-solving and
to consider the improvement of student understanding of word problems. Dr.
Preskenis authored numerous articles in analysis and mathematics education, frequently presented papers at national conferences and at
meetings of the Northeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of
America, and published a significant extension of the Weierstrass
Approximation Theorem. Kenneth J. Preskenis Scholarship Fund Brochure (get Adobe Reader) The Mathematics Department hosts a Northeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America Regional Dinner Meeting in Ken's memory at the College every Spring. |
