Core Courses
The General Education Requirement
All students must satisfy a general education requirement consisting of eleven (11) courses outside of the major department (see FSU catalogs). The General Education Goal 2 (Quantitative) requirement is satisfied through the completion of the Mathematics major.
The Core Courses
All students must complete the following ten (10) core courses:
- MATH 215 Finite Mathematics
- MATH 219 Calculus I
- MATH 220 Calculus II
- MATH 221 Calculus III
- MATH 226 Linear Algebra and Applications
- MATH 231 Euclidean Geometry
- MATH 310 Number Theory
- MATH 319 Abstract Algebra
- One (1) computer science course
- One (1) course in probability and statistics:
- MATH 117 Introduction to Statistics
- MATH 208 Biostatistics
- MATH 307 Intermediate Statistics
- MATH 348 Mathematical Statistics I
- MATH 349 Mathematical Statistics II
Concentrations in Mathematics:
Each student must complete the requirements of one (1) of the three (3) concentrations in mathematics.
