FSC Announces Commencement Speakers

Robert Maresca (far left), president of Bose Corporation, will speak at Framingham State College’s 2008 undergraduate commencement ceremony, to be held Sunday, May 25, at 2 PM on the Framingham village green. He will also receive the Doctor of Science honoris causa degree. Patricia Plummer (near left), chancellor of the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, will speak at the graduate commencement ceremony, to be held Sunday, May 25, at 10 AM in the college’s performing arts center.

This year marks the first time Framingham State will hold two separate commencements, one for undergraduates and another for graduate students. Approximately 700 bachelor’s degrees and 450 master’s degrees will be awarded.

Maresca has been president of Framingham-based Bose since 2005. He leads domestic and international operations for one of the world’s top providers of sound systems for the home, automobiles and public venues, and of noise reduction systems for the military and consumer use. Maresca joined Bose as senior research engineer in 1986. He became vice president of the Home Entertainment Division in 2003. Before joining Bose, he worked as a research engineer at Philips Laboratories and at Hewlett Packard’s Scientific Instruments division. Maresca received his BS with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MS from Stanford University. He holds numerous patents in electromagnetics and controls.

Plummer, an alumna of Framingham State College, began her career in higher education as a tenured professor at Framingham State, where she worked for nearly 20 years, most recently as associate vice president for academic affairs. After receiving her bachelor’s in food and nutrition from Framingham State College, she earned her master’s in nutrition from Tufts University and her doctorate in higher education administration from Boston College.

Philip Dooher, former vice president for enrollment management at Framingham State College, will receive the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Dooher served FSC for more than 36 years in various capacities, including two terms as interim president. He remains committed to the principle that access to higher education should be available to students from all backgrounds.

As Massachusetts’ premier state college, Framingham State College offers prepared and motivated students a wide range of challenging undergraduate and graduate programs. Located just 20 miles from Boston, the college offers many options for students to engage in real-world learning both on its quintessential New England campus and in Boston and its thriving MetroWest region.
