Volume 7

Perceptions of Female Sexual Experience and Fantasy

Christine T. Houk

Most women fantasize, and sometimes the fantasies are of a sexual nature. The perception of morality of sexual experience has been studied; however, how women perceive morality and acceptance of sexual behavior as they relate to sexual fantasizing has not been examined. Participants included 120 college women with a mean age of 19.7 (SD = 1.3) and 94.2% Caucasian. Each participant read one out of four scenarios, which varied the level of sexual experience and nature of fantasy. The results show that participants perceived the scenario character with low sexual experience more positively than the scenario character with high sexual experience. The participants’ who are more open towards sex rate the characters with more sexual experience as having higher morality. However, participants did not perceive the scenario characters differently in regards to type of fantasy, non sexual or sexual.
