V. Residence Life and Housing Staff

The Residence Life and Judicial Affairs Office is located in the lower level of Corinne Hall Towers. You will find the offices of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs/ Director of Residence Life and the Residence Life Assignment Coordinator in this suite. The office is open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and is closed weekends and holidays.

The office has overall responsibility for most facets of residence hall and housing programs and services. The office maintains all housing records including room assignments, Residence Hall License Agreements, room selection information, and Resident Assistant staff selection information.

A. Professional Staff

In addition to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs/ Director of Residence Life and the Housing Assignment Coordinator, each Residence Hall is staffed by a Residence Director.

A Residence Director is a full-time professional who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the residence life program in one or more assigned residence halls. He or she responds to emergency situations, mediates conflicts, processes judicial cases, monitors the operation of the Residence Hall, supervises staff and students, develops programs, advises individuals and groups, and administers policies. The Residence Director lives in a professional staff apartment and maintains regular office hours in the RD office located in the residence hall. The RD is available to discuss any problems or concerns you may experience.

There are four Residence Directors on campus and there is also a Residence Director on-call 24 hours a day should the hall's RD be unavailable and an urgent matter arises.

B. Student Staff

Security Desk Attendants (SDA) staff the security desk in the residence halls. SDAs verify residency upon entry to the hall, screen and register guests, sign out hall equipment, enforce policies within the lobby, and monitor the entrance. Because it is not possible for all SDAs to know all residents and their current address, residents must present their identification cards to the SDA each time they enter the residence hall. SDAs are required to verify that only authorized individuals are allowed access to the halls.

Resident Assistants (RA) report to the Residence Director and work closely with the residents on each floor or area to which they are assigned. Resident Assistants serve as a resource, explain and enforce College and Residence Hall policies, respond to emergency situations, sponsor social and educational programs, offer general assistance and support, and promote the growth of a positive learning community on the floor or area and in the building.

Administrative Resident Assistants (ARA) are student staff members in each hall who work closely with and assist the Residence Director in management of the Security Desk as well as with other administrative tasks. ARA's have specific responsibilities which include Security Desk operations and mail delivery. They also have the same responsibilities as other Resident Assistants.
