PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR A MAJOR IN SOCIOLOGY

Any student who meets the following minimum requirements is eligible to apply for a major in Sociology.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Have passed at least four (4) courses at Framingham State College.
  • Have earned at least a 2.0 QPA (quality point average) at Framingham State College.

Application Procedure:

  • Complete an application form. (This is available from the Crocker Hall secretaries or from this website.)
  • Submit a Change of Major form (available from the Registrar’s Office) with your application.
  • Prepare a 300-500 word typewritten statement explaining your interest in Sociology.
  • Submit a request to the Registrar’s Office for an official transcript of your academic work at Framingham State College to be sent to the department Chair (Dr. Susan Dargan). This should include all courses for which you have received transfer credit and/or courses taken in the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education at Framingham State College.
  • If you have taken courses at another institution for which you received credit at Framingham State College, you must also submit a transcript or photocopy of a transcript of those courses as well.
  • Meet with department Chair, Dr. Susan Dargan, once all materials have been submitted and reviewed by the Chair.

  • Discuss your career goals.
  • Explain why you think a major in Sociology at Framingham State College will help you achieve your educational and career goals.
  • Explain your choice of concentration in Sociology.
  • Indicate whether you plan to declare a minor, and if so, name the department in which you will pursue that minor.
  • Explain how your choice of minor will further your educational and career goals.
