User Accounts

Your student username and password combination allow login and connection to FSC network resources from any computer connected to the network. This includes network printers, shared drive space, applications and access to the Internet. If you borrow a laptop for a specific course, you are assigned a local account that enables you to install software, local printer drivers, and other applications. It is important to note that the two accounts are not interchangeable. When logged into the local account, FSC network resources are not available.

Your login also plays an important role in determining where you find your "stuff" on your computer. To avoid confusion create a folder on the C: drive and always save your files to the same place regardless of which account is used.

If you experience problems accessing your account or forget your password, contact the Student Helpdesk at ext. 5950 (on campus) or (508) 215-5950. A valid photo ID (preferably your FSC ID) must be presented to change a password or receive account information.

E-mail

Every Framingham State College student is given an FSC E-mail account.  If you need a copy of this information, please visit the Student Helpdesk (Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.) To use your E-mail account, please go to http://stumail.frc.mass.edu and enter your username and password.

Online Learning

Blackboard 6 Learning Management System (LMS) is used at Framingham State College to deliver online and web-enhanced classes. Students enrolled in a Blackboard course access course materials, participate in asynchronous discussions and take advantage of the system's collaborative tools anytime, anywhere - as long as they have access to the Internet. Students interested in learning more may view the online Blackboard tutorial at http://www.academicsonline.org/StudentGuide/index.html.

To access Blackboard, your PC must have at least a 56K modem connection, be configured with 500-600MHz and 64MB RAM, and have either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Internet browser (IE is the preferred browser). Blackboard is hosted off campus at http://framingham.blackboard.com.

Contact Academic Technology and Distance Education at ext. 4927 (on campus) or (508) 626-4927 for Blackboard service and support.

Framingham State College has entered into an agreement with Presidium Learning to provide 24/7 Blackboard support to students, faculty and staff.  Blackboard assistance is available by phone or online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Presidium support resources include phone support, where Support Representatives are available to provide technical support for Blackboard and supporting software supported by the Blackboard application; live chat, a real-time chat tool that provides a direct link to a certified Support Representative; knowledge base, a self-help student and instructor online support resource that provides a robust knowledge database related to the Blackboard application; and online tutorials, animated tutorials that provide step-by-step instruction to use specific course tools.

If you need help using Blackboard or other related applications contact Presidium Learning toll free at (866) 361-8970 or visit the Presidium Online Resource Center at http://supportcenteronline.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=850.

Telephones

Each Residence Hall room is equipped with a single phone jack.  This jack is for shared use among all residents living in that particular room.  Even though there is only one jack, there may be multiple voice mails off of a single line. The jack is often located on the same box as your cable and network (Internet) access.  Students must bring their own phones to campus.  Students should also bring their own long distance calling card or phone card.

If you are experiencing problems with your phone connection, please call NetVersant at (877) 747-7422.  Calls between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. will be processed by NetVersant’s Boston office.  Calls after 5:30 p.m. will be automatically directed to NetVersant’s Network Operation’s Center in California.

If the phone problem has to do with a physically broken jack on the wall, please call the Student Helpdesk at ext. 5950 or (508) 215-5950.

Cable TV

User Services/ Media Services operates the College's 74-channel cable television system (including satellite teleconferencing capability) to the residence halls and classrooms. The cable system is accessible from all living spaces in the residence halls. There is one cable jack available per room. You may connect any cable-ready TV directly to your cable outlet. Cable TV is also available in the College Center in the Info booth area, as well as the Commuter Cafe and the Residence Cafe. These areas show weekly information about student clubs, general announcements and events. Most classrooms also have cable drops.

If you experience a problem with the connection, please call ext. 5080 (on campus).

Media Services

If you need to borrow Audio/Visual equipment, stop by the Faculty/Staff Helpdesk, located in the Arthur Doyle Technology Center, or call ext. 4357 (on campus).
