April Events: National Library Week
•Month of April: AMNESTY FOR LIBRARY FINES. Amnesty for overdue fines in exchange for non-perishable food items. One food item = up to $1.00 in fines. Donations provided to MetroWest Food Harvest.
•Week of 4/14-4/18: IM TRIVIA CONTEST. FSC Trivia questions will be posted in my.framingham library page. Answer correctly on library’s “my.framingham IM Meebo box” and you will win a free coffee coupon or 10% discount coupon from the bookstore! (Scroll down the page and you will see the IM box). DISPLAYS. View displays of FSC READ posters, 1930’s artifacts, slideshow of images from the 1930’s, faculty and staff publications, and books from and of the 1930’s at library entrance. A bird bulletin board with related books is on display in the Curriculum Library. The 2008 Caldecott, Newbery, and Coretta Scott King award winning books are also on display in the upper mezzanine of the library. A selection of Newbery and Caldecott award winning titles from the 1930’s and other children’s books about the 1930’s will be displayed at the library entrance.
•Monday, 4/14: KICK-OFF CELEBRATION. Have some cake to celebrate National Library Weeks’ 50th Birthday! Library Entrance.
•Tuesday, 4/15: SOUTHERN POTLUCK BOOK DISCUSSION. Professor Lorretta Holloway will lead a discussion on To Kill A Mockingbird. Want to borrow a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird? Contact vgonzalez@frc.mass.edu. Your invited to bring your own Southern dish to share! 12:30pm, Archives Room.
•Wednesday, 4/16: MOVIE SHOWING. To Kill A Mockingbird. Raffling basket of FSC goodies at each movie showing! 2:30pm, College Center, and 7:00pm Planetarium.
•Thursday, 4/17: MUSIC FROM THE 1930’S. The Appalachian Travelers will perform music played by the immigrants and their descendants who settled the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1600’s. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, this music came to prominence through the recordings of the Carter Family, the Monroe Brothers, and the Skillet Lickers. 12:30pm, Library entrance.
•Thursday, 4/17 and Friday, 4/18: STORYTIME AND CRAFTS. The Curriculum Library will be hosting the Child Development Laboratory students for a story/craft program on birds. Curriculum Library

Big Read Events
The Whittemore Library will hosting a number of Big Read events during National Library Week April 13-19. The library is collaborating with UMASS Boston to celebrate the Big Read on our separate campuses. Here is their calendar of events:

Tuesday, March 25th at 5:30—Healey Library, 11th floor, room B Book discussion and readings on To Kill a Mockingbird.
Saturday May 10th, a "Mockingbird Festival" will be held on the UMass Boston Campus to celebrate the successful conclusion of the program. This event will likely involve everything "Mockingbird" we can think of from music, to panel discussions and dramatic skits, to art & essay contests, the songwriting finals, and maybe even to a workshop on building birdhouses, to... you name it. We'll need lots of volunteers to help make this event a success. Let us know if you are interested in helping to organize the Festival at bigread@wumb.org.
