Erika Schneider
Associate Professor, Art History
Erika Schneider
The Fulbright-Terra Foundation Award in the History of American Art History gave me the opportunity to teach, lecture, research, and network in the Netherlands during the fall 2015 (August 2015-January, 2016). I taught an undergraduate course on American art history and a graduate course on the representation of the struggling artist in America and advised three graduate independent studies at Radboud University in Nijmegen, which is in the southeast part of the Netherlands on the border with Germany. My travels to Dutch cities, including Amsterdam, the Hague, Rotterdam, Delft, Utrecht, Maastricht's-Hertogenbosch, Laren, Otterlo, Arnhem, and Nuenen, and nearby countries, including Belgium, France, and Germany, also allowed me to visit museum collections and architectural sites which inform my teaching and scholarship at Framingham State University.
On Thanksgiving, my husband, 15-year old daughter, and I attended dinner with 50 students and faculty for an event sponsored by the American Studies student organization, USA Nijmegen. The Dutch interpretation of American dishes was quite fun to experience and included meatloaf along with turkey, and although there was no pumpkin pie, there was an amazing ice cream extravaganza with American brownies to finish the meal.
