Framingham State University is pleased to announce that U.S. Congressman Seth Moulton will give the graduate commencement address this spring, while Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan T.M. Reckford will give the undergraduate commencement address.

Both ceremonies will take place Sunday, May 21st, on the Framingham Town Green.

“We are honored to host two truly distinguished public servants as our commencement speakers this spring,” says FSU President F. Javier Cevallos.

Congressman Moulton will address Framingham State’s graduate students during a ceremony that begins at 9:30 a.m. A graduate of Harvard University and former Captain in the U.S. Marines Corps, Congressman Moulton served four tours of duty in Iraq, including two as an infantry platoon commander and two as a Special Assistant to General David Petraeus. He has focused his first term in Congress on spurring economic growth for Massachusetts families, ensuring that we make informed decisions about our national security, and improving veterans’ health care through the VA, where he continues to receive his own care. He currently sits on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Budget.

“I know that our students will be inspired by Congressman Moulton’s record of service to our country during both his time in the Marine Corps, and now as an elected official,” President Cevallos says.

During the ceremony, Framingham State will confer upon Moulton the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service.

Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan Reckford will address the undergraduate students during the afternoon ceremony, which begins at 2 p.m. Reckford has been CEO of Habitat for Humanity International since 2005 and has overseen remarkable growth at the organization. Guided by Reckford’s vision, leadership, and passion for service, Habitat for Humanity has significantly increased the number of people it is able to assist on an annual basis.

Today, the organization works in 1,400 communities across the United States and approximately 70 countries around the world. The group has helped 9.8 million people achieve strength, stability and independence through safe, decent and affordable shelter. Prior to taking over as the organization’s CEO, Reckford had a successful business career that saw him hold executive and managerial positions at Goldman Sachs, Marriott, the Walt Disney Co., and Best Buy.

“Almost everyone is familiar with the great work and outstanding mission of Habitat for Humanity,” says President Cevallos. “The Framingham State community is deeply committed to service learning and many of our students, faculty and staff have had the opportunity to volunteer with this wonderful non-profit. I know we are all excited to hear from Mr. Reckford, who has done amazing work leading the organization.”

Framingham State will confer upon Reckford the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters during the ceremony.
