Students at Newbury College in Brookline and Assumption College in Worcester are now eligible to take advantage of Framingham State University’s 4+1 programs in Biotechnology and English.

A 4+1 program provides high-achieving undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a graduate degree in just one additional year, saving them time and money. Students who meet certain qualifications apply to the graduate program during their junior year and begin taking graduate-level courses during their senior year. These courses count toward a bachelor’s and master’s degree, providing students with the opportunity to earn both in just five years.

“More and more students are realizing that it requires an advanced degree to truly standout in the Commonwealth’s innovation economy,” says Dr. Yaser Najjar, Dean of Graduate Studies at Framingham State. “Our 4+1 programs provide students with a quick and affordable track to earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees.”

FSU launched its 4+1 programs in 2017 in response to growing demand among undergraduate students for fast-track graduate degree options. The Biotechnology Program is in direct response to employer needs in one of the state’s fastest growing fields. In Fall 2019 a 4+1 in Food Science and Nutrition specialization in Dietetics will be launched. Moving forward, the University plans to expand its 4+1 options to additional programs.

Under the articulation agreement, students at Newbury College will also receive priority admission into several of Framingham State’s 23 graduate degree programs.
