Asymptomatic testing – October 25, 2021

Dear FSU Community,

As we move through this semester I am proud of how our community has come together to help mitigate the spread of COVID19 on campus. As it gets colder with people spending more time indoors and cold and flu season in the wind, we are continuing to implement strategies to allow us to live and learn in-person.

Asymptomatic Random Testing:

In order to ensure that the University is testing enough of our population to identify positive cases of COVID-19 before they spread, we are going to conduct random sample testing of students and employees every Tuesday for the remainder of the semester beginning on November 2nd. While our vaccination rates are extremely high, breakthrough cases do happen, so it 's important that we continue to test our vaccinated population to ensure cases aren 't spreading. This will also help protect members of our community who are not vaccinated with authorized exemptions or to those in our personal lives who may not be vaccinated.

Each week we will be reaching out through FSU e-mail to a random sample of students and employees and requesting that they come in for testing during our weekly testing hours between 9:30-2:30 on Tuesdays in the main Athletic Center gymnasium. Please do your best to make time to come in for a test if you are selected. No appointment is required and staff may work with their supervisors to arrange for a convenient time for a test which generally takes less than 5 minutes start to finish. Also, even if you are not selected for testing during a certain week, all members of the community are welcome to come in and get tested on Tuesdays.

Flu Vaccination Clinic:

I strongly encourage everyone to get their flu shot as soon as possible. The University will be holding a free Flu Clinic for students, faculty and staff on campus this week during the following times:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Athletic Center – small gymnasium
  • Wednesday, Oct. 27, noon to 4 p.m., Athletic Center – small gymnasium

Finally, the University will be posting an updated list of COVID FAQs later this week based on questions we have been receiving from members of the community. I encourage everyone to read through them when they go up on the main page of our COVID19 website.

Thank you for your attention to these important matters.

Stay safe,

Javier
