  13. Framingham State University Teacher Preparation Program Graded Among Top in the Country

    The undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program at Framingham State University has been named among the best in the nation when it comes to ensuring future elementary teachers have the essential content and skills they need to teach mathematics. The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), a national research and policy organization that regularly evaluates the core requirements and practices of over 1,100 programs that prepare future elementary teachers released a new report today in which the undergraduate program at Framingham State University earned an A+ designation for its requirements in elementary mathematics. Framingham State University is among only 79 programs in the nation to earn this distinction as an "exemplar" in the new report.  Read more...

    Star defense football player Joshua Onujiogu has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following last week's NFL draft.     Campus Compact, a national coalition of colleges and universities working to advance the public purposes of higher education, has named 173 student civic leaders who will make up the organization's 2022-2023 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows. Framingham State’s own Leighah Beausoleil '23 joins students from 38 states, Washington, D.C., and Mexico to form the cohort.
    The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes students who stand out for their commitment to creating positive change in communities locally and around the world. The fellowship is named for the late Frank Newman, one of Campus Compact's founders, who was a tireless advocate for civic engagement in higher education. In the spirit of Dr. Newman’s leadership, fellows are nominated by Campus Compact member presidents and chancellors, who are invited to select one outstanding student from their campus each year. Read more...

    Today, Framingham State University received the 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Framingham State University will be featured, along with 78 other recipients, in the September 2021 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.  Read more...

    Framingham State University is one of 61 organizations nationwide selected to receive a 2021-2022 NEA Big Read grant. A grant of $19,970 will support a community reading program focusing on An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo, the first Native American Poet Laureate of the United States. Framingham State University's Whittemore Library, in partnership with the Framingham State Danforth Art Museum, MassBay Community College, Framingham Public Library, and the Smithsonian Institute, will coordinate several events in Fall 2021 as part of the effort. A keynote event featuring Joy Harjo will take place on December 8, 2021. Copies of An American Sunrise will be handed out at various partner locations. More details will become available in the fall.     The Christa McAuliffe Center for Integrated Science Learning at Framingham State University, a Smithsonian Affiliate, announces their win of the Teens Dream Changemaker Challenge, a global competition sponsored by the Global CoLab Network, and in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution. The McAuliffe Center mentored six teams of teens who made it to the final round of judging in the competition. Because of the number of outstanding proposals submitted by the students, the McAuliffe Center was awarded the competition's first-ever Mentor Award of $500 which was matched by $1000 from the Smithsonian.
