F. Javier Cevallos
President
President Welcome Letter
Dear Parent:
In the college admissions cycle, this is an exciting time of year for your student and for you. No longer is the issue about getting into a selective four-year university; the decision now is about which university to attend. On behalf of everyone at Framingham State University, congratulations to your student on gaining acceptance to a selective university and to you as well for the many efforts you put into your student’s educational and extracurricular successes.
As the president of Framingham State, I have the distinct pleasure of overseeing a dynamic public university with a statewide reputation for high quality academic programs, strong support services, and numerous co-curricular activities. Located on an expanding and picturesque New England college campus, FSU is a close-knit, inclusive, and caring community where we look out for one another.
As you may know, Framingham State was founded by Horace Mann as the nation’s first public college for the education of teachers. While teacher preparation remains a key aspect of our mission, today we are just as well known for our programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), business, nursing, fashion design and retailing, food and nutrition, and the liberal arts.
Our beautiful campus features two residence halls built within the last nine years, as well as a state-of-the-art science building that opened in fall 2015. The University is ideally situated in the heart of the MetroWest economic corridor, just down the road from the corporate offices of several major companies including Bose, Staples, TJX Companies, Dell EMC and Genzyme. Our comprehensive Office of Career Services and Employer Relations has forged strong partnerships with these industry leaders, which provide our students with internships and job opportunities.
At Framingham State, we are proud of our students’ achievements. Whether its obtaining a high paying job prior to graduation, gaining admission into a prestigious doctoral program, or participating in the competitive Teach for America program, our students don’t have to wait long to make their mark. This is because they have many opportunities to demonstrate and practice what they are learning through research with faculty, creative projects and internships. We value that our faculty are accessible to students, that they see themselves as teachers-scholars-practitioners of their disciplines and that they emphasize active, collaborative learning.
As a parent, I know that you want the best for your student, and this includes selecting the right university after high school. Rest assured, we will strive to help your student succeed in an environment where faculty and staff know their students’ names, strengths, and aspirations.
Sincerely,
F. Javier Cevallos, Ph.D.
President
