As a young child in India, Mandip watched his father head off to America hoping to set up a new life for his loved ones. When he was seven, the family reunited in Melrose, MA, where they run a restaurant. Mandip’s first internship was in the FSU business office. As a sophomore, Mandip landed another high-impact internship at the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) firm Paresky Flitt & Co. There, he gained valuable contacts and took a big step toward his ultimate goal of working for one of the “Big 4” accounting firms (KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers). Mandip says he would also love to start a nonprofit organization one day that provides psychological treatment to people in his native India, where mental health conditions are often ignored. Kathryn started college at Syracuse University, before deciding it was too expensive and too far from home. Her mom, an FSU alumna, helped convince her to enroll in a class at FSU in spring 2020. During her junior year, Kathryn was accepted into Liberty Mutual’s immersive TechStart Summer Internship Program. She worked with a team on the digital accessibility center, using software to code in a way that meets accessibility standards. The experience led to a job offer just before the start of her senior year. But she didn’t stop there. Before graduating, she joined the University’s annual India J-Term experience, a unique and intensive three-week study abroad program designed to enhance students’ global and cultural perspectives, increase awareness of self within the world and develop skill sets relevant to life after graduation. My internship experience with Liberty Mutual’s Techstart Summer Internship program helped me land a job offer prior to graduation. The opportunities at Framingham State University are incredible. PLACES TO VISIT As a star athlete and the valedictorian of her class at Mount Everett Regional School in Sheffield, MA, there was no shortage of colleges willing to open their doors to Gwendolyn. The opportunity to be a part of two athletic programs, as well as a great experience during an overnight visit to campus, left no doubt in Gwendolyn’s mind that Framingham State was the spot for her. She has excelled on and off the field at FSU. She has starred for the women’s softball and basketball teams, helping lead both to conference championships. Gwendolyn is also a top student who is preparing for a career as a physician’s assistant in orthopedic medicine. “I’ve had amazing professors who are very supportive,” she says. “They are interested in game results and in tune with what I have going on outside the class.” You don’t realize the impact a place is having on you in the moment, but I have met my best friends at FSU. The people are the reason I ended up here, and I’m just lucky to have found a school that fit so perfectly here. GWENDOLYN C.
