Report Phishing

IF YOU ARE REPORTING A PHISHING EMAIL, DO NOT SUBMIT AN INCIDENT FORM.  INSTEAD, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Check our phishing alerts to see if the phish has already been reported. If it has been reported, please delete the email.  No further action is required.

  • If it has NOT been reported, please forward the email to our office using one of the following methods:

    -If possible, send the suspicious email as an attachment to IT@framingham.edu. Please follow our instructions for forwarding emails as attachments below.

    -If you are unable to forward the email as an attachment, please forward the email to IT@framinhgham.edu and copy the full email headers at the top of the forwarded email using the instructions below.

Outlook Client (Windows)

  1. Select the message you wish to forward in from the “Message List”.
  2. Press the Ctrl, Alt, and F keys, simultaneously.  A new message will open with the message you received attached to it.
  3. Send the message to it@framingham.edu with the subject “Suspected Phishing E-mail” and write your name and any additional details in the message body.
  4. Click "Send."

Outlook Client (Mac)

  1. Select the message you wish to forward in from the “Message List”.
  2. Right click on the message (Press and hold the "Control" button while clicking).  A menu will open.
  3. Click on "Forward Special."  
  4. Select, "As Attachment."  A new message will open with the original message attached to it.
  5. Send the message to it@framingham.edu with the subject “Suspected Phishing E-mail” and write your name and any additional details in the message body.
  6. Click "Send."

Outlook on the Web Client

  1. Click the + New message button to create a new message.
  2. Find the message that you want to forward as an attachment, click on it, and drag it over to the message body of the new message.
  3. Send the message to it@framingham.edu with the subject “Suspected Phishing E-mail” and write your name and any additional details in the message body.
  4. Click "Send."

 

Outlook Client (Windows)

  1. Double-click an email message to open it outside of the Reading Pane.
  2. Click the "File" tab
  3. Click "Properties"
  4. Copy the header information from the “Internet headers” box
  5. Paste the header information above the forwarded message.

Outlook Client (Mac)

  1. Right-click the suspected Phishing email from the “Message List”.
  2. Click “View Source”
  3. Copy the message source information, which contains the headers
  4. Paste the header information above the forwarded message.

Outlook on the Web Client

  1. Select the message for which you want to view the headers.
  2. Click the three dots in the right corner of the message to open the “More Options” menu
  3. Select “View Message Details”
  4. Copy the message source information, which contains the headers
  5. Paste the header information above the forwarded message.
