BIAS EDUCATION RESPONSE
The Bias Education Response Team (B.E.R.T.) provides the university with a comprehensive method for addressing incidents of bias that fall below the status of hate crime in an effort to continue to create a safe and welcoming environment for all. B.E.R.T. monitors any trends related to bias incidents, and develops proactive strategies to inform and educate the campus. To report an incident, use the Bias Education Response Form.
Trauma Informed Care and Crisis Support
To those students who feel targeted by bias and hate, we are here for you and encourage you to take advantage of the many resources we have on campus. The Counseling Center have trauma-informed, best practices trained, MA licensed clinicians to support you. You can also find support with staff from the Center for Inclusive Excellence, the Division of Inclusive Excellence, Campus Ministry and the Dean of Students Office.
University Police Support
The University Police will respond immediately to bias and hate incidents when reported. Contact University Police at 508-626-4911 with any information. If you wish to remain anonymous, please use the anonymous tip line by texting to 67283, and in the beginning of your message typing “FSUTIP” followed by a space and then your message.
Local Campus Support
The Council on Diversity and Inclusion, a group of staff and faculty, meet regularly to discuss how to support diversity and inclusion at FSU.
An ad hoc faculty group “Faculty Against Hate” formed in 2017 to support students affected by the recent hate crimes on campus and to visibly express their rejection of racism.
Library Anti-Racism Resources
The Whittemore Library has a number of anti-racism resources including books and articles, research guides like the Anti-Racism Research Guide, and online digital collections such as the Black Lives Matter Teach-in. The librarians have also formed a Library Diversity Advisory Committee to work on projects to support diversity and inclusion.
