Temporary safety measures – January 14, 2022

Dear students,

As we get ready to start the semester, we are aware that many of you have questions about what is an isn't available in our temporary heightened safety state due to the current surge of Omicron cases. We hope to answer at least some of your questions below. These closures are temporary and we plan to transition to a more open state on January 30th.

For now, please be aware of the following safety measures, which are effective immediately:

  • The weight room, new gym, old gym, McCarthy Center Game Room and Larned Hall E-Sports room will be closed until the start of in-person classes on Monday, January 30th. Only approved athletic practices will be permitted in the gymnasiums.
  • We will be joining several other schools in our athletic conference in implementing a "no spectator" policy at sporting events until Monday, January 30th.
  • Most classrooms on campus will be open and available to students who need a quiet space and access to the internet during the first two weeks of remote classes. The library will also be available to students, with a variety of space to use, including:
    • Reference room
    • Study rooms on the bottom level floor
    • Study rooms across from IT helpdesk
  • Student clubs are permitted to meet in-person, but should try to limit the number of people, particularly if in a small space, and everyone should be properly masked.
I know these measures will be disappointing to many of you, but it's critical we stem the spread of COVID as much as possible as everyone returns to campus. We are already beginning to see positive signs that the current surge is at its peak, and as cases start to drop, we will be in a good position to loosen many of these new safety restrictions.

Thank you,

Meg Nowak Borrego, Ph.D.
