Information about our honors societies
The Honor Society of the Department of Sociology & Criminology seeks to recognize the academic achievement and excellence of individuals with majors and minors in the fields of Sociology and Criminology. In addition, eligible students are invited to join the two honor societies with which the department is affiliated, Alpha Kappa Delta and Alpha Phi Sigma.
Alpha Kappa Delta is a certified member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is a partner with the American Sociological Association (ASA). AKD is an international Honor Society of Sociology. Since its inception in 1920, it has been dedicated to and encouraged its scholars in the scientific study and advancement of sociology and their commitment to the complex and diverse social problems of the world around us.
Alpha Phi Sigma is the only Criminal Justice Honor Society accredited by the association of College Honor Societies. Founded in 1942, Alpha Phi Sigma has sought to promote academic excellence and leadership for scholars who major in criminology and would later like to pursue a career in criminal justice.
