Joe has been at FSU since 2019 after a career in college textbook publishing where he published books used by over ten million students for courses in first year writing, literature, technical writing, and reading. He was Senior Vice President and Editorial Director for English textbooks at Pearson, the leading publisher in the field. This real-world business experience lends a unique dimension to his teaching.
Joe has published textbooks by leading composition scholars including John Bean, Chris Anson, and Lester Faigley. Best-sellers he has published include Ballenger The Curious Researcher, Johnson-Sheehan Writing Today, Lannon Technical Communication, Behrens and Rosen Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum, and McWhorter Guide to College Reading. He also managed and published the revision of Strunk and White’s classic work for clear and concise writing, The Elements of Style. His many publications have been distinguished by their responsiveness to evolving cultural and technological landscapes. Joe’s BA is from Boston University and MA from Bridgewater State.
