Become a Citizen of the World

As technology continues to make the world smaller, there is growing demand for greater understanding of how global processes shape economic, cultural, and political interactions between and among communities.

Take part in a stimulating interdisciplinary educational experience that will enable you to become an empowered global citizen ready to engage cross-cultural dialogue and succeed across a wide-range of international career opportunities.

This unique program offers a flexible structure, enabling students to have a voice in the design of their major and define an individualized plan of study that reflects career goals and interests.

Global Studies Learning Outcomes

Students learn the historical causes and current process of globalization from an interdisciplinary foundation. They are given the tools to understand global relationships and learn about ways to introduce effective change in issues of global importance. The global studies major emphasizes a flexible structure, allowing students to share in the design of their major and to respond to emergent opportunities at the University and abroad. Experiential learning is stressed: students must study abroad for one semester and are encouraged to take internships and other service learning opportunities.

Program Requirements

All students must satisfy a general education requirement consisting of ten (10) courses outside of the major department. The General Education Domain III-C (Global Competency, Ethical Reasoning, and/or Human Diversity) requirement is satisfied through the completion of the Global Studies major.

Career Opportunities

Global Studies majors will be prepared to pursue career opportunities across a wide range of exciting fields, including:

International Business

Political affairs

Gather and analyze data about new developments in foreign politics.

International relations and diplomacy

Work at an embassy to promote peace while representing the best interest of America.

Law

Go on to law school after graduation, and then practice international law, or work for a firm.

Nonprofit & Development

Work with groups such as the Peace Corps, USAID, and Oxfam America on international affairs.

International Event Planning

Plan domestic and international events such as corporate meetings and educational events.

Education and Study Abroad Programs

Work in education and help the next generation of students make their Study Abroad dreams a reality.
