What You Need To Do:
Before meeting with an academic advisor, there are a few steps you’ll need to complete to make sure you can access all of our systems.
1. Confirm Your Enrollment
Once you submit your enrollment deposit, please allow 48 hours for your student accounts to fully activate.
2. Access Your FSU Email & Tech Accounts
After activation, you’ll receive information from IT about how to log in to:
- Your Framingham State email
- MyFramingham
- Other essential student systems
Make sure you can sign in to your email/MyFramingham before your appointment—this is where you’ll register for your first semester courses.
Having issues with logging in? Contact IT by either calling 508 215-5906 or sending an E-mail to it [at] framingham.edu (it[at]framingham[dot]edu).
3. Complete Your Placement Exams
Before scheduling your advising appointment, please take the two placement exams:
· Math Placement Exam
· Writing Placement Assessment
These help us recommend the right first‑semester courses for you. Questions? placement [at] framingham.edu (Placement[at]framingham[dot]edu)
4. Schedule Your Advising Appointment
You can book your first advising appointment in one of two ways:
Option A: Through Starfish
Use the link in your New Student Checklist to schedule a meeting with an advisor.
Option B: Call the Advising Center
Prefer to speak with someone directly? Call us at 508-626-4540 and a staff member will help you book your appointment.
What to Expect at Your First Advising Session
Your advising session is designed to help you feel prepared and confident as you plan for your first semester at FSU. During your meeting, your advisor will guide you through the essential tools, course options, and next steps you’ll need to start your academic journey successfully.
Learn the Essential Platforms
An advisor will introduce you to the key systems used for planning and registering for classes, including:
- MyFramingham – your central student portal
- Student Schedule Planner – a tool that helps you explore and build possible class schedules
- Banner (Registration System) – where you officially register for your courses
You’ll learn how each platform works and how to navigate them with confidence.
Explore Recommended First-Semester Courses
Together, you and an advisor will review:
- Courses recommended for your major
- General Education requirements
- Balanced course options that support your academic success
- RAMS 101 courses that interest you
- RAMS 101 is a first‑year seminar designed to support your transition to college and introduce you to academic life at FSU. Each course is built around a unique, theme‑based topic taught by a faculty member, and includes a dedicated student mentor who offers guidance and academic support. Before your advising session, we encourage you to review the RAMS 101 course options and choose a few that interest you to discuss with your advisor.
Learn How to Register
You’ll get step-by-step guidance on:
- Searching for available courses
- Using Student Schedule Planner to build ideal schedules
- Registering in Banner
- Checking for holds or issues
- Completing and confirming your registration
- By the end, you’ll know exactly how to register for classes and make changes when needed.
AP/Dual Enrollment
Students who have taken AP exams or Dual Enrollment courses may be eligible to receive college credit at FSU. AP credit is awarded for scores of 3 or higher, and Dual Enrollment credit is accepted for courses completed with a C– or better. Because official scores and transcripts may not be available before advising, students are encouraged to bring a list of any AP exams or Dual Enrollment classes they believe they have passed; schedule adjustments can be made later if needed. Official AP scores should be sent through the College Board, and Dual Enrollment transcripts must be requested from the registrar office at the institution where the course was taken.
