Framingham State University has once again been recognized with a Higher Education Excellence and Distinction (HEED) Award from Insight Into Academia magazine, a national publication that recognizes colleges and universities demonstrating an outstanding commitment to academic excellence, belonging, and community-building across all aspects of campus life. Framingham State was one of just 60 institutions nationwide to receive the distinction and the only member of the Massachusetts State University System to be honored. 

The recognition reflects a mission that has guided the University since its founding in 1839 as the nation's first public teacher preparation institution. Established on the belief that education should be accessible to all - regardless of race, class, or economic circumstance - Framingham State continues to build a campus where opportunity, support, and student success remain at the center of its work. 

"We use a detailed scoring process as well as a holistic approach to reviewing each application to determine who will be named a HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where academic excellence and belonging are woven into the work being done every day across their campus," said Lenore Pearlstein, Co-Publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. 

In selecting Framingham State, the publication highlighted the University's investments in student mental health and well-being, efforts to diversify its faculty and student body, and outreach initiatives that expand access to higher education for historically underserved communities.
