FRAMINGHAM – Framingham State University is collaborating with the Boston Public School (BPS) system, two other areas colleges, and The Possible Zone, an organization dedicated to advancing economic equity, on a new pathway into college for local high school students.
The initiative is called Beyond Possible, which fuses science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with essential skill building so that enrolled BPS high school students will not only build their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but also cultivate a spirit of innovation and resilience, essential for future success.
The Beyond Possible model mimics the structure of an early college pathway by providing targeted, sequenced coursework. It is further complemented by wrap-around supports, soft-durable skills development, and career preparation experiences that will help equip young people for college and future in-demand careers, such as data analytics and information technology. STEM careers have grown significantly over the last three decades and have a projected growth rate faster than those of non-STEM careers into the 2030s.
Framingham State University, along with MassBay Community College and Wentworth Institute of Technology, has agreed to offer conditional acceptance into the university for any students who completes the program. In addition, FSU will:
- Offer classroom and virtual tour sessions
- Accept all college-level credits students in the program achieve toward their education requirements
- Host an on-site admissions program specifically for students in the cohort
- Work directly with The Possible Zone to ensure students’ applications are complete
