Dr. Everton Vargas da Costa holds a master’s degree and PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and served as an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Framingham State University before joining Framingham Public Schools in 2022 as the Coordinator of Talent Acquisition Learning and Growth in the Office of Human Resources. Dr. Vargas da Costa has experience teaching Portuguese in Brazil, Ecuador and the United States, where he served as the Brazilian Lecturer at Harvard University from 2014 to 2018. His research interests focus on training modalities and practices of Portuguese language teachers and has publications in Brazilian and North American journals on the elaboration of teaching materials, project-based pedagogy, and language learning assessment. He ministered training for teachers of Portuguese as a heritage language in the Boston area and developed several projects to promote community engagement for students of Portuguese as an additional language. Dr. Vargas da Costa has served in editorial boards of specialized journals in the area of Applied Linguistics and is one of the editors of the collection of articles "Teaching and Learning of Portuguese Language and Brazilian Culture around the World" (Boavista Press, 2018), which brings together pedagogical experiences of fourteen Brazilian instructors in thirteen countries.
